Intergroup representatives are selected by the local group they represent. These Intergroup Representatives (IR) are chosen by their group for their willingness to serve as well as their commitment to the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions of Overeaters Anonymous (OA).
The Intergroup Representative plays a critical role in the structure of Overeaters Anonymous. The IR serves as a liaison between the OA meeting that they represent and the Sacramento Valley Intergroup of Overeaters Anonymous (SVIOA). In addition to being a lifeline of communication, IR's are also responsible to see that any fliers or written communication pertaining to Intergroup events and/or updates are made available to the group. |
Part of the IR's responsibility is to be part of the voting membership, which consists of the SVIOA Board and the Intergroup Representatives (or “delegates”). At least one member from each group within the geographic areas that SVIOA represents (the greater Sacramento Valley and Sierra Foothills, including Amador, Butte, Calaveras, Colusa, El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Solano, Sutter, Stanislaus, Yolo, and Yuba counties) will be one vote that is contributed in the group conscience.
Attendance at Intergroup meetings is open to all OA members and all are encouraged to participate in the discussion, but visitors who are not members may not cast a vote on behalf of their group |
