Meeting Minutes

Sacramento Valley Intergroup of Overeaters Anonymous

 

Location: Christ Temple Apostolic Church, 9001 La Riviera Drive, Sacramento. Conducting: Mariel D.  Intergroup Chair. Minutes: Lori P., Intergroup Secretary.  31 in attendance.

We started at 7:00 p.m. The meeting opened with the Serenity Prayer; Anna read the Twelve Concepts of Service; Introductions were made; the minutes of last meeting were read and approved.

Board Reports

Chair:  Mariel D. 

·         Agenda – New business items:  None

·         Status of Lawsuit:  Numerous attempts have been made to contact attorney regarding current status; all attempts failed.  Mariel suggested SVIOA change attorneys; an attorney who worked on our case has started her own practice and is willing to represent us. Motion made by Ian to have Mariel file a Notice of Substitution of Attorney; second by Weedie; Vote:  Yes=21; No=0; Abstentions=4.  Motion passed.  Mariel will file form to change attorneys.  Following that, the new attorney will file the appropriate paperwork required at this time.  Mariel will report back at next month’s meeting.  

Vice Chair: Carmen A.

·         Mailings went out.  Carmen purchased additional stamps and envelopes.

Secretary:  Lori P.

·         Minutes from last meeting submitted.

Treasurer: Ian D.

·         Ian gave financial report for September 2006. 

Ř       Post office box was locked due to non-payment; Ian will pay and will report on funds received on next month’s Treasurer’s report.

Ř       Ian requested that literature stock inventory be taken at the end of the year.

Region 2:  Pilar P. & Judy L.

·         No report.      

World Service:  Rosalie

·         No report.      

Webmaster: Katy H.

·         Absent, no report.     

Continuing Business

·         Election Ballots for 2007 SVIOA Board Members.  Mariel distributed ballots and went over instructions for voting.  Voting will take place at the group level during the month of October.  Ballots will be returned at the November Intergroup meeting at which time the votes will be tallied and new Board members announced.  Carmen will assist in tallying the votes.

·         Recovery Coins.  Margaret gave report.  Recovery coins have been purchased; a total of $300.72 was spent, including tax, S&H.  Cost to purchase coins is as follows:  Serenity coins = $.30/ea; Newcomer, 30, 60, 90-day coins = $.60/ea; 6 months = $.60/each; big OA medallion = $3.75/ea. 

Two large print editions of the OA 12 and 12 were purchased for the last Day in OA.  They were sold very quickly.  If Intergroup wants to stock, we could purchase 100 for $17.40/ea or purchase individual copies for $19.30/ea.  Group poll was taken:  most people just wanted to order a few at a time; Carmen suggested we purchase five copies for the next Day in OA.


·         At last month’s meeting, Judy L. brought up for consideration the prospect of having downloadable speakers on the SVIOA website.  Brief discussion, but no action taken at this time.

New Business

·         Theatre Ads – Dorothy would like to determine if money is being well spent on theatre ads.  Suggested meetings be polled to see how many people came through the ads.  Group Conscience was taken and elected to entertain idea when new Board takes over in January 2007.  Ian made pitch in favor of ads – even if only 1 person joins, it’s worth it.  Motion made by Dorothy:  Poll meetings during March-April 2007 to ascertain how newcomers are getting to OA; second by Helen G.  Discussion followed.  Sharon E. reminded group that Tracie H. had done a survey; Mariel & Lori will attempt to locate results in old meeting minutes.  Vote:  Yes=20; No=3; Abstentions=3.  Motion passed. 

Committee Reports

Ř       Day in OA held on September 23rd was huge success.  Next Day in OA will be held on Saturday, November 18th.  The topic will be “Abstinence through the Holidays”.  It will be held from 10 – 1 at Mercy Medical Plaza, Lower Level Auditorium.  Two speakers will share their experience, strength and hope on the topic; The Recovery Players will present “A Holiday Carol”.

Ř       Mariel announced help needed to get speaker from Bay Area for OA Birthday Party in January; Judy L. suggested she talk to Judy H.

v      Speaker List:  Harry – picked up six new people; eight eliminated from list.  Trying to get list on line.
