Meeting Minutes

Sacramento Valley Intergroup of Overeaters Anonymous

 

Location: Christ Temple Apostolic Church, 9001 La Riviera Drive, Sacramento. Conducting: Mariel D.  Intergroup Chair. Minutes: Lori P., Intergroup Secretary.  25 in attendance.

We started at 7:00 PM. The meeting opened with the Serenity Prayer; Ian D. read the Twelve Traditions; Introductions were made; the minutes of last meeting were read and approved with corrections.

Board Reports

Chair:  Mariel D. 

·         Agenda – New business items:  Disability Access

·         Status of Lawsuit:  Mariel spoke with attorney; gave update on lawsuit.  Please continue special collections to cover attorney fees still outstanding.  

Vice Chair: Carmen A.

·         Mailings are out on time; will prepare Valley Voice and September Day in OA flyer for mailing. 

Secretary:  Lori P.

·         Minutes from last meeting submitted.

Treasurer: Ian D.

·         Ian gave financial report for May 2006.  7th Tradition donations are down; Event income is down – please promote.  Ian gave a detailed line item report and discussed legal fees.

Region 2:  Pilar P. & Judy L.

·         Judy L. made pitch for Region 2 Convention – silent auction basket donations being accepted.

World Service:

·         Rosalie represented SVIOA at the WSBC in May.  She gave her report orally and submitted the written report to the Intergroup. Summary of report:

o        Rosalie thanked SVIOA members for electing her to represent us at the WSBC; total expenses were $1,452; Rosalie disclosed that her husband traveled with her, but no OA funds were used for his expenses.

o        Theme of the 2006 Conference was “OA without Borders”.

o        Final Conference Report will be mailed to each delegate and each Intergroup in September.

o        Conference Highlights:

-     Only a few motions presented this year.  Motion to add exercise to the current list of OA tools was defeated.

-     Workshops generated the most interest this year.  Rosalie especially liked Passport to Freedom:  Hearing is Believing and Avoiding Detours:  The Disruptive Member

-     OA has released a 25-minute CD that has OA members from around the world speaking in their own voices telling ‘what it was like, what happened and what it’s like now’.  CD is available for purchase in the OA literature catalog.

·         Absent - no report.  

Continuing Business

·         Publication of a meeting list without names and telephone numbers.  A motion was passed unanimously at last month’s Intergroup meeting.  At that time, Tracie H. pointed out that a one page meeting list had been created before for previous public events, which included the 15 approved questions on the back.  Mariel will contact Tracie H. about the list. 

 

 

 

New Business

·         Disability Access – Motion made by Jodi and seconded by Rosalie to open up general discussion for five minutes on the topic of disability access.  Vote:  Yes=24, No=0, Abstaining=1.  The group discussed the topic and decided to schedule a follow-up discussion at next month’s Intergroup meeting after it had been brought up at groups.  Will be added as Continuing Business item on next month’s agenda.

Committee Reports

o        Answer Phone Service:  Janet – absent, no report.

o        Bylaws Committee:  Mariel indicated that the committee is not meeting regularly, nothing came out of WSO, committee should be done for the year.

o        Designated Downloader:  Michael – absent, no report.

o        Events:  Sharon E. – June 24th Day in OA on Tools of Recovery; being sponsored by the Wednesday 5:30 p.m. Tools meeting; there will be speakers and a play called Tool Time presented by the Recovery Players

o        Group Growth:  Darlene – absent, no report.

o        Literature:  Janice and Margaret – Margaret reported that sales are going fine – sold $561 worth of literature tonight.  If anyone needs special orders, please let them know.

o        Newsletter:  Jodi – July publication has to go in early; if anyone has articles, please submit; extra copies were printed this month for the Convention. 

o        OA HOW:  Dorothy – needs to get information in Valley Voice about the committee; will give Mariel policies and procedures.

o        Public Information:  Tracie H. – absent, no report. 

o        Retreat:  Susan H. – absent, no report.  Mariel will call Susan for report and checks.

o        Speaker List:  Vacant – please announce open position at meetings.

o        12th Step Within: Mike Z. – absent, no report. 

o        Young People:  Jennene – Group is growing a little; meeting time conflicts with Intergroup; Jennene may attend Intergroup every other month.
